San Jose is Santa Clara County’s county seat, so there are many government buildings such as courthouses of the Superior Court.
San Jose was first established in 1777 as farming land to supply food for the residing Spanish Military. California became a state of America in 1850, and San Jose was deemed its first capital. San Jose’s history with military continued during World War II, when the city housed many soldiers and veterans. In the 1950′s San Jose transformed from a farming city to metropolitan city, with technological and industrial businesses. During this time, shipping containers first made their impact with the construction.
The high concentration of computer and engineering companies located in San Jose area lead to its nickname, Silicon Valley. Today there are at least 25 major technological companies with headquarters in San Jose, including: Cisco Systems, eBay, Hewlett-Packard Printers, IBM, SunPower, Brocade Communications Systems, and Adobe Systems. These companies, coupled with schools of higher education in the area, supply the highest number of jobs for San Jose residents. It is no surprise that some of these silicon valley companies have used portable storage containers as IT data center and mass computers. The individuals leading this industry arrive in large numbers from Stanford University, University of California, Berkeley, University of California Santa Cruz, San Jose State Universities, and other universities in the area.
The technology industry boosted up the San Jose economy through the 1990′s, but started to fall in the 2000′s when the tech bubble burst. In 2000 before this decline, San Jose housed the residents with the highest median household income of cities in America with over 300,000 people.
There are various railway systems running through San Jose, such as: Caltrain, ACE, light-rail system, and Amtrak. This railroad presence does create a higher turnover of storage containers in San Jose. The Historic streetcars that are so characteristic of San Francisco operate on the holidays. BART is the Bay Area Rapid Transport system which connects San Francisco with surrounding communities. It is the fifth most used rapid transit system in America, and because of this, there were plans to expand the system all the way to Santa Clara. The recession halted the plans, but now they are being implemented in two phases, the first phase will start construction in 2012. Another proposed future transportation system is the California High-Speed Rail, which was approved in the 2008, but is now in limbo due to budget shortages.
There are countless attractions and activities available in San Jose.
