National City is part of San Diego County; it is the second oldest city in San Diego. In 1868 the entire area of “the national ranch” was purchased by Warren, Levi and Frank Kimball. Together they built infrastructure into the area in the forms of roads and railroads. Mission Bay is to the West of National City, and Mexico is just 15 minutes South. National City’s sister city is Tecate, Mexico.
We have provide service in National City from our portable storage containers San Diego location in Spring Valley for over ten years. NC is home to the infamous “Mile of Cars”. This mile has grown to hold 21 car franchises, and continues to grow today. In 1904 Ford was the first dealership to open up shop in the area. Chrysler opened their dealership in 1941, and the area gained its name in 1955.
The port area of National City is part of the largest U.S. naval base on the West Coast and it is home to many portable storage containers and other industrial products. The Naval Base San Diego houses the large 54 ship Pacific Fleet. The base is comprised of 13 piers stretched over 977 acres. The Bayfront/Marina Gateway in National City has recently been developed to attract more visitors to the area. The area will provide tourist attractions and lodging on the coast. The naval base takes up most of the coast, so this development will help to bring more attention to the civilian areas on the coast.
Westfield Plaza Bonita shopping mall is a nice shopping destination and demanded mobile and portable storage containers in National City. It is one of the only completely indoor malls in San Diego County. The mall was recently remodeled; it now includes a playground, café, and many new restaurants. Plaza Bonita was opened in 1981 and it was purchased by the Westfield Company in 1994. A new renovation plan started in 2002, the new sleek decor helped update the mall. The mall was further expanded on the South side in 2006, and a parking garage was added.
The National City Southern California Railroad Depot is located at 900 West 23rd Street. This railroad depot was built in 1882; it was the first Pacific Coast terminus station of the transcontinental railway that started in Santa Fe. You can see lots of shipping containers being transported by the trains. Today it is the last surviving terminus station of the five original, it is now a California Historic Landmark.
