Old Time Air History
In 1923 the first flight terminal for the Los Angeles Area, The Grand Central Airport, opened in Glendale. This airport was the location of the take- off of the first cross-continental commercial flight, flown by pilot Charles Lindbergh. The Grand Central Airport used to be the largest employer for the residents of Glendale; it closed down in 1959 to make space for the Grand Central Business Park.

Many other well-known companies began in Glendale. Bobby’s Big Boy burger chain opened in 1936, and Baskin- Robbins “31 Flavors” ice cream shop opened in 1945. Economic and commercial development especially picked up in the 1970’s with the opening of the Glendale Freeway and Ventura Freeway. This development required a number of units for portable storage. Lots of Good Restaurants
The “Americana at Brand” is a large outdoor shopping center with 75 stores, 100 condominiums, 238 apartments, and dozens of restaurants. Construction for “Americana at Brand” began in 2005 after some controversy, and opened in May of 2008 after utilizing a number of portable storage containers Los Angeles services. The style of the mall is set in the time period of the Industrial Era, and there is wide- open grass covered spaces for meandering. Glendale also boasts the second largest shopping mall in Los Angeles county: the Glendale Galleria.
