Del Mar is a city of San Diego County and we deliver portable storage containers to the city from our location in nearby Spring Valley. “Del mar” is Spanish for “of the sea”; it is a fitting name for this exciting coastal city. Del Mar has a sub-tropical climate with temperatures between 60 and 85 degrees on most days of the year. Time Magazine named Del Mar’s 15th street beach the 4th best beach in America.
Visitors and Residents of Del Mar can enjoy the gorgeous weather in any one of its beaches or parks. Powerhouse Park has a grassy area, playground, and community center, and is located off of 15th street beach. Seagrove Park offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, and is a short walk from the quaint shops and restaurants of downtown Del Mar. This little area was home to a few mobile storage containers in its day. Torrey Pines State Reserve Park and Beach offer many different hiking and biking trails. Del Mar is one of two locations in the world where the endangered species, the Torrey Pine, grows.
The Del Mar Fairgrounds is a 370-acre plot of land that lies between the Pacific Ocean and the Interstate 5 freeway. The land has historically been owned by the State, but in 2010 Governor Schwarzenegger offered to sell the land. Del Mar has made a deal to buy the land for $120 million, and if the deal goes through, will run the grounds under a public benefit trust indenture. It is no surprise that one can find portable storage containers on the grounds. The Fairgrounds is the number one employer of the city of Del Mar. The grounds houses the Del Mar Racetrack, the Chevrolet Del Mar Arena, and many exhibit halls and pavilions. The arena was made in 1991 and remodeled in 2009; it seats up to 3,500 people, and is used for concerts, sporting events, and other events. The most iconic exhibit hall is the Mission Tower, which can be seen from the beach and the freeway.
The Del Mar Racetrack was first created in 1937, by a group of famous actors: Bing Crosby, Jimmy Durante, Charles S. Howard, Pat O’Brian, and Oliver Hardy. By 1942 the track was already a summer hot spot for celebrities, and it wasn’t because of any storage containers. In 1990 the track was renovated, and now features an infield area and new grandstands. In 2007 a new polytrack surface was laid down on the 1- mile track. The racing season runs for 37 days in the months from July to September, and each summer the races attract more than 40,000 spectators.
The San Diego County Fair is held on the Del Mar Fairgrounds every year from June to July 4th. Each year the fair has a different theme, some past themes have been “Under the Sea”, “Dr. Seuss”, and “Taste the Fun”. This coming summer the fair is called “Race to the Fair” and will celebrate cars, from antique models to modern cars. The fair consists of countless activities such as carnival rides in the fun zone; art exhibits in the exhibit halls, concerts on the various stages, livestock showings in the barns, and dozens of fair food vendors and shops up and down the main walk. In some cases we do support the fair with containers through our Portable Storage San Diego location. We look forward to another great fair soon.
