The Redlands has three museums. The Redlands Historical Museum is located in downtown Redlands, within historic Smiley Park. The San Bernardino County Museum is responsible for the San Bernardino de Sena Estancia, which is an old ranch outpost built to house cattle in 1819. In 1925 the government of San Bernardino purchased the ranch, and by 1937 the buildings had been restored and were ready for visitors. The Redlands Historical Glass Museum holds glass from the 19th century to the present, in the form of candlesticks, bowls, plates, lamps, and other objects.

History of Redlands

The history of the Redlands can also be seen in the many beautiful and unique buildings. The well-known citrus grower, James Edwards, built Edward Mansion in 1890. Now the structure has been moved to an area off of the 10 Freeway and restored. It is a popular wedding site today, due to its classy vintage architecture. The Barton School House was built in 1877. In 2008 the land surrounding it was purchased for a construction project, and the construction company moved the school to Orange Street for preservation. Plans to renovate this structure, the oldest surviving in the Redlands, are in progress for the next three years. Morey Mansion is a historic house with unique architecture, the roof features onion shaped domes. This mansion overlooks the 40-acre natural preserve of the San Timoteo Canyon.
