Pendleton is a Big Part
Camp Pendleton is located just West of Fallbrook. Camp Pendleton is the major U.S. Marine Corps base on the West Coast. Camp Pendleton began operations in 1942 to train Marines for World War II. The base was named after Joseph Henry Pendleton who was a supporter of the creation of a base on the West Coast. Needless to say, the base has hundreds of units and they are used in so many ways. They could be used to build fake cities, store ammunition or even be converted into container offices. The base covers an area of over 125,000 acres today. Major destinations on the base are the Mainside Complex, the Edison Range, and the School of Infantry. There is a training program for ages 14-17 called “Devil Pups” which is held on Camp Pendleton. This program trains teenagers in physical fitness and discipline skills of the army. Camp Pendleton offers community outreach programs such as The Kids First Fair.
