Paradise Valley is a city in Maricopa County AZ and it was incorporated in 1961. It is still a small residential city with just over 14,000 residents and 5,000 homes. Paradise Valley is 16 square miles and is located between Scottsdale to the East and Phoenix to the West.

Lots of Education

Paradise Valley has many public, private and charter schools. The two main public schools are Cherokee Elementary and Kiva Elementary. The use of portable storage containers helped the The Camelback Desert School open its doors to students in 1950. Their motto is: “We make children feel good about themselves”. This school also hosts a variety of extracurricular activities in the summer months. Kachina Country Day School was granted a charter contract in 1996 by the Arizona State Board of Education. Phoenix Country Day School was created in 1960 and has more than 700 students today.

Galleries and other Sites

Some prominent landmarks and locations in Paradise Valley are the Cosanti Gallery, Camelback Cemetery, and El Chorro Lodge. Paoli Soleri built the Cosanti Gallery. The gallery displays many bronze and ceramic wind chimes and bells. These wind-bells are internationally known. It is important to remember that the heat in the desert makes the units very hot. Careful concern should be made for its contents.

El Chorro Lodge is a popular restaurant and lounge with a rich history. The lodge began as the Judson School for Girls in the 1930’s. It transferred ownerships many times before becoming what it is today. It is now a prominent installation in the city of Paradise Valley.

The Camelback Cemetery is located between Scottsdale Road and Mockingbird Lane. The cemetery was first part of Hans and Mary Weaver’s property in the early 20th century. Now a flagpole and monument are in the cemetery to honor military veterans.

The Paradise Valley Country Club was opened in 1952 by a group of businessmen who were in need of a golf course. The owner of the Camelback Inn donated 270 acres near Tatum Boulevard and Lincoln Drive to serve as the golf course. Through the application of steel storage containers and construction, the country club is now very popular with over 1,000 members.

Tourism is a Big Part of the Picture

Although Paradise Valley is a quaint residential city, it has 12 resorts and hotels. This makes the city a popular tourist destination in Arizona. Some of the resorts are Camelback Inn, Hermosa Inn, Smoke tree Resort, Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain, and Mountain Shadows Resort. Smoke Tree Resort has a restaurant and a beauty salon and contains apartment units as well as hotel rooms. Apartment construction has boomed with real estate and we have sent units to Paradise Valley to support the growth. Sanctuary has an intimate spa. Mountain Shadow Resort has over 300 rooms, eight tennis courts, and an 18- hole golf course. The resorts are a large part of the economy in Paradise Valley.
