Cypress is East of the San Gabriel River Freeway, South of the Artesia Freeway, and North of the Garden Grove Freeway and Interstate 405 Freeway. It is a great city located in Los Angeles County with a proud history.
Cypress was known for its abundance of wells in the early 20th century. It was incorporated as “Dairy City” in 1956 due to the many local dairy farmers. By the 1960’s and 1970’s dairy farms and agriculture gave way to real estate development. The city and the local elementary school were named after the Cypress trees planted in the area.
School Districts
Three main school district serve the city of Cypress: the Anaheim Union High School District, Cypress Elementary School District, and the Los Alamitos Unified School District. Cypress College is a community college in the city. The college was established in 1966 and now has about 17,000 students enrolling per semester. The beautiful campus is located on Valley View Street. The many futuristic looking buildings of Cypress College are built around a lake and quad area with the use of portable storage containers. Cypress offers spring and summer camps for its youngest residents.
The Cypress Community Center is located on Orange Avenue. The center dawns beautiful modern architecture but does not employ housing made from storage container rental units.
