Carson was incorporated in 1968. This makes it the newest addition in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles area. One means of transporation in Carson is the Carson Circuit Transit System. This bus system has six routes and its headquarters are located at 3 Civic Plaza Drive. The busses that drive the circuit are smaller than normal city busses and are completely white.
The California State University Dominguez Hills is located in the city of Carson. The campus is home to some storage units that are used as on-site storage for sports teams and other needs. This school has a large commuter population. CSUDH was built in the 1960’s to quell complaints about the lack of college opportunities in the Los Angeles Area. There is a very diverse student body at CSUDH.
The Home Depot Center is located in Carson. This is the home of the Los Angeles Galaxy Soccer Team. The JP/Morgan Chase tennis tournament is held at the Home Depot Center every year.
The Oil Industry supplies many jobs in Carson and there is strong demand for container rentalsto support these activities. Oil drilling began in the area in the 1920’s. By the 1960’s there were over 350 refineries and they were producing about 300 barrels of oil every day. The most prominent oil companies are Shell Oil Company, Union Oil of California, and BP West Coast oil. The oil industry helped boost Carson’s economy.
The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board sent an order for Shell to stop methane and benzene gas contamination in the Carousel neighborhood. The major shopping mall in Carson is the Pavilion at South Bay which is located at Avalon Bolevard. Carson is planning on constructing an outdoor retail center which will be called the Carson Marketplace. This project will likley send a fair share of portable storage containers to Carson for construction support. The area of the proposed mall needs to be cleaned up of toxic waste first. Once this is done construction on the Marketplace can move forward.
